Hi all
some of the 39 banks on slide 5 of the MAUD_MTEX_comp.pptx show a peak ~2.0 A - where alpha-Ti has nothing (also not beta). That d-spacing and the fact that the peak only shows up in some banks points to diffraction from samples holders (Al rods wrapped in Cd - which sometimes slides down when we use screw drivers or knives to remove the glue to hold samples). Al has the strongest peak at 2.34A, (111), - which is were alpha Ti has it's 00.2 peak and that PF has the strongest difference to BT8 results (nice results BTW!). The peak at 2.34A (002 for Ti overlapped by Al 111 for some patterns) is pretty poorly fit in some of the 1D plots on slide 5 (e.g. first panel all peaks are pretty nice, but 002 at 2.34 is only 60 percent of intensity). So I suggest to either disable banks that have that peak at 2.0A from the Al or add Al as a phase (should results in a small wt frac but Al is much lighter, so stronger peaks) with a extrusion fiber texture (seen that often...).
It looks like BT8 shows 103 aligns with the BD, 002 has a ring around BD and the other ones are pretty weak (barely above 1.1 mrd). While 002 is plotted for HIPPO with the caveat of the Al sample holder overlap, 103 is not plotted. Can we add that one and
maybe just focus on those two? The labels for the MTEX plots in the comp.pptx are not readable - or hebrew... So it's hard to tell if MTEX processes the MAUD data correctly - can we choose a MTEX color scheme and mrd range that is similar to MAUD so we can
compare that better?
Thanks for your work turning HIPPO data into scientific insight!
Sven
Gennady,
I could not find special problem with your 1D and 2D refinements. However, the texture does not look quite similar to the one I have in BT-8 after all.
Please see attached results for SLM-HT_South from BT-8.
The texture in the attached file is presented such that BD is parallel to ND, i.e. in the middle of the PF. Unfortunately, I will know how we should rotate only after I meet with Sven and we figure out exactly how to the sample were mounted on HIPPO.
In the meantime, could you please do the following:
Thanks Gennady.
Sven, to my non-MAUD-expert eyes it looks good. What do you think?
Gennady, could you please send MTEX results (raw PF, calculated PF, and ODF) for one of the samples we ran at BT-8? I would love to see results for SLM-HT S.
Also, please send the beta wt% for all samples.
Thanks,
El'ad
Hi Sven,
The attached file contain MAUD screenshots of SLM-V W sample
I think it looks good
Best Regards
nicely quick turn-around!
Gennady - can you send a few screen shots of e.g. 40 degree detector 2D plots and 90 degree 1D plots to get some idea how good or bad the fit is? I like to check them before I spend time thinking about PFs, too much can go wrong. There was an earlier MAUD
2.98 version that had the LeBail intensity extraction broken, so the texture basically just fit noise, which results in PFs that look similar to yours.
El'ad - does this agree with previous, verified SLM Ti64 textures? I think in the JOM paper we saw a fiber texture along the build direction with maxima around 2 or so for the fan plate samples? I just noticed that the scale bars are inverted in that paper for the ambient condition PFs...
Let me know...
Sven
Thomas, Sven,
Attached, please find preliminary analysis of HIPPO texture results.
Thomas, the analysis was done by Gennady, my PhD student, who also spent one year at LANSCE under Sven's supervision.
The main result that can be drawn here is that the texture is very small, as we saw on BT-8, and that SLM-HT and SLM-nHT are similar (there's maybe some difference in beta texture but the amount of that phase is very small so I don't think it is significant).
