FYI
Thanks for the update Don
I am glad that it was positive, I will talk with Eyal, and learn more details.
A coordinated workshop sounds good, we could try to schedule, from May 16 or later. Sorry the date proposed is a bit far, we have just began our Passover holidays.
An in person meeting is always a positive idea, perhaps earlier than November. Please bare in mind that an AM conference during March 2023 is planned. If it would be possible, A coordinated LANL and LLNL participation could be great, assuming another world wide pandemic will not take place.
Best regards
Eitan
Eitan,
The meeting in DC was very positive. It was generally agreed that a visit to Israel is in the cards, but I think the first step will be a virtual workshop between LANL, LLNL, and IAEC (maybe Sandia as well). They were quite pleased with our progress, but it was recognized that LLNL and LANL could better coordinate our efforts. I suspect Eyal will discuss this with you. The consensus was for an in-person visit to happen before November. We will see...
Don
Don,
Things in Israel are heating up a bit. However, as I always say, shooting events in Israel are most of the time less common than in other big western countries...
I would be thrilled to see you (and others?) here in Israel. Would you have some time for recreation as well, or just business?
I was not contacted by Valerie yet. Would you like me to contact her?
El'ad
Elad,
Deadline is pretty much this morning. The presentation is Monday and it has to have classification review. No worries, I have some good fodder and I don’t think they are expecting much given the nature of the past two years.
How are things in Israel? I am trying to get management to approve a visit. Sarrao encouraged it, but my direct supervisor is more risk averse.
Have you guys been contacted by Valerie Salazar to start the process to get access, presumably in the fall for beamtime?
Don

If some slides are required, please let me know. Gennady may have some info too.
What's the deadline?
It's pre-Passover cleaning season, so time is a rare commodity...

Don’t recall presenting these projects after 2017 at icotom. El’ad has a paper draft on the pipe, so future work in working towards submission. El’ad also measured some of our texture round robin samples at NIST, comparing that with others is also future work, if you need slides for that let me know.

Folks,
I will be presenting to the Steering Committee for the NNSA/IAEC collaboration next week. It will want to include significant results from the last 2 years (since the last update). I have found publications from this collaboration, but have no way to find any talks/presentations. If you have any, especially invited talks, from this collaboration, could you send me details ASAP.
I think Yaron received his degree in this time period.
As for future work, I will be including the proposals that Asaf just submitted on deformation of AM 316 as well as a proposal that will be submitted from my side to map microstructure (e.g. dislocation density) in AM steel components. If I am missing something, please let me know.
Thanks,
Don

Hi Don,
Thank you for your response to the submission.
Since the approval process for travel in our institute is long and has not yet begun, I assume that at this early stage each of the team members has almost the same chances (for any reason) to come to LANL. Would it be too much paperwork for you to process the approval for the visit for everyone?
Asaf

Asaf,
I am glad to see your proposal in the system. Can I ask if anyone from your team will is planning on coming to LANL presuming the beamtime is awarded? They want to start the approval process for foreign national visits as early as possible. This is not implying any commitment from your side.
Thanks.
Don

Hello Asaf Pesach, You have successfully submitted Proposal 9193 at Lujan Center. The LANSCE Program Advisory Committee (PAC) will review your proposal. You will receive a notification if your proposal will be awarded or not.
Proposal Title in situ microstructure measurement of additively manufactured 316L stainless steel during tensile or compression loading
Proposal Description The prospect of 316L stainless steel parts production by EBM is highly attractive as an alternative to conventional wrought stainless steel. However, as far as we know, little information has been reported about the microstructure of AM stainless steel in general and particularly EBM. In this study, we propose to measure the bulk microstructure of EBM 316L stainless steel upon different tensile or compression loadings using SMARTS neutron diffractometer. Our ultimate goal is to understand the relation between development of intrinsic stresses, process parameters, and mechanical properties of EBM stainless steel.
